Tableau Setup - The Deal
The Dealing Process
1. Preparing the Deck
Two standard decks are combined and thoroughly shuffled, forming a single stack of 104 cards to begin the deal.
2. The Tableau Layout
Cards are dealt to the tableau one at a time, face up, into fourteen piles arranged in two horizontal rows of seven piles each. The stock piles represent card ranks from Ace through King in ascending order, and a draw pile is positioned at the center of the bottom row.
3. Rank Matches
Dealing proceeds from left to right in rank order, and each time the draw pile is reached it receives a face down card. In addition, the draw pile receives two face down cards whenever the card dealt matches the rank of the stock pile. Dealing proceeds until all cards are exhausted, then play begins.
In this demo deal the draw pile cards are shown face up for illustrative purposes only, to show how the draw pile is created.
4. Foundations
During play, eight foundations are positioned above the stock piles — four building upward, and four building downward, with one foundation per suit in each direction. Players can choose where each foundation pile begins, allowing colors or suits to be organized according to preference.
